Sin brings fear while righteousness brings confidence.

Rebellion leads to many people thinking they are in charge and when everyone is in charge no one is in charge. When you have a leader who has wisdom and leads with wisdom he/she will be established.

*Being insensitive to others is one of the worst sins and especially being insensitive to someone in the same condition as you is just plain meanness.

  1. ¶ Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, But such as keep the law contend with “All it takes for evil to triumph is good people to do nothing.”
  2. Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand all.

Those who do wrong are constantly begging for mercy. David said in PS. 101 that he praised God for His mercy and His justice. Don’t be surprised to hear someone who has been caught in sin becoming upset about the discipline they received.

  1. ¶ Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich

*Integrity is priceless.

  1. ¶ Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son, But a companion of gluttons shames his father. When we start obeying we are starting to mature. We realize that when God says don’t do something He is saying don’t hurt yourself and when He says do something He is saying help yourself to

Our companions/friends affect us and others. Remember earlier: RIGHT PEOPLE determine right practices!

  1. ¶ One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion gathers it for him who will pity the poor

This proverb needs to be understood as a prediction that the law will be enforced. The law from Lev. 25:35-37 taught that one was to be liberal in their assistance to the poor and not lend money in order to make money. Furthermore the one who did this would have his land/money taken from him as a penalty.

  1. ¶ One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.

*Disobedience has severe consequences – even his prayers are not pleasant to God.

  1. ¶ Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, he himself will fall into his own pit; But the blameless will inherit good.

There are those who sin and there are those who promote sin. The promoter of sin will have greater judgment.

  1. ¶ The rich man is wise in his own eyes, But the poor who has understanding searches him out.

Wealth has the tendency to bring pride into a person’s life causing them to quit searching for the true treasures of life – a poor person seems to keep searching for true wealth.

  1. When the righteous rejoice, there is great glory; But when the wicked arise, men hide themselves

*This is one of those verses that tell us why it is so important to have godly leaders.

13.  ¶ He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

Be sure to read the entire proverb – whoever confesses and forsakes – not just admits they we wrong – not that they are sorry they got caught! Those who repent get a dose of mercy.

The idea of covering sin is one who is lying and lying should always be dealt with harshly.

  1. ¶ Happy is the man who is always reverent, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

Be careful of a hardening your heart.

  1. Like a roaring lion and a charging bear is a wicked ruler over poor people.

*Leadership without integrity leads to oppression! And the oppression is always the hardest on the poorest.

  1. ¶ A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, But he who hates covetousness will prolong his

One of the prices to pay in order to be a leader is to be knowledgeable – knowledgeable of your people – knowledgeable of the times.

Greed is a killer – if you defeat this desire life will be much more enjoyable.

  1. ¶ A man burdened with bloodshed will flee into a pit; Let no one help

This Proverb calls for letting the guilty be punished.

  1. ¶ Whoever walks blamelessly will be saved, But he who is perverse in his ways will suddenly

You make your choices and then your choices make you – whether good or bad.

  1. He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough! The contrast of the diligent verses the lazy
  2. A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished
  3. ¶ To show partiality is not good, because for a piece of bread a man will transgress

*Those making judgment decision should resist any type of brides and watch for any signs of bribery. Some people will lie about another person for even a biscuit.

  1. A man with an evil eye hastens after riches, and does not consider that poverty will come upon Greed cause one to make bad financial decisions. They go after the get rich schemes and end up poorer than when they started. If it sounds too good to be true it almost always is too good to be true!
  2. ¶ He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward than he who flatters with the tongue

We respect those who are willing to risk telling us what is best and right than those who are “yes” people to us.

  1. Whoever robs his father or his mother, And says, “It is no transgression,” The same is companion to a destroyer.

When you can steal from your parents and not see it as sin you are getting pretty despicable.

  1. ¶ He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the LORD will be prospered

Arrogance leads to arguments. God blesses those who trust Him.

  1. ¶ He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be

The fool thinks he is always right.

  1. ¶ He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses. Again we have to decide if we will be compassionate – God blesses the generous person.
  2. ¶ When the wicked arise, men hide themselves; But when they perish, the righteous

Again we see the necessity of leaders with integrity.
