December 8, 2025: First things FIRSTAs Abraham walked by faith into God’s promised land, he would do something very significant, not just pitching a tent to dwell in, but he also built an altar.  Now, mind you, it was not an idol. It was an…

What Are You Seeking?

Amos 5:4 “For thus says the LORD to the house of Israel: “Seek Me and live;””

As God was becoming secondary to the people of Israel, the prophet Amos boldly spoke on behalf of GOD to SEEK GOD and LIVE! For Amos, God’s people needed to repent and readjust their focus. The need for readjustment was so great that the call to seek God and live is repeated in Amos 5:6.

This idea of seeking to know God is prevalent in the Bible.  I searched the usage of the word “seek” and found well over 100 verses that speak to seeking God.  For instance, here are just a few that I think you might be familiar with:

Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Luke 12:31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
Jeremiah 29:13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.
Isaiah 55:6 Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.

I really love 1 Chronicles 22:19 as it tells of King David’s charge to God’s people.  He tells them to “Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God.”

James 4:8 says it a little differently, but is it the same idea: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

David tells of his primary desire in Psalms 27:4. It states, “One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.”
He then declares his devotion to seeking the Lord in Psalms 27:8 as he states, “When You said, Seek My face, My heart said to You, Your face, LORD, I will seek.”

What are you seeking?  Fame? Fortune? Pleasure? ???  Do you need to make some adjustments to your primary search? Does your seeking focus more on temporal thrills and momentary satisfaction?  Or are you able, without hesitation, to say you have a holy hunger to seek and know God?

Our search for significance is found in Jesus Christ!  Seek Him and Live!
