Romans 6:13 “And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.”
As I started LEARNING how to live my new Christian life, I was blessed to have several people help me to understand what I had IN CHRIST and what actions I needed to take to BECOME what Christ wanted me to be. Over and over, the various disciplers pointed me to Romans 6. Over and over, the various disciplers highlighted Romans 6:13. The application of Romans 6:13 seemed to be a verse that determined the new direction of my new Christian life. While other verses provided information about what Christ had done for me and what He had provided Romans 6:13 put the focus on me as I had to decide what I presented myself to, what I made myself available to. As one discipler said, it was time to make a HUGE decision.
Unpacking Romans 6:13 reveals a verse that demands a PERSONAL DECISION. First, we are to decide to NOT do something. We are to decide we are no longer available to practice sin. Our second decision is we are available to practice righteousness.
I find it helpful in understanding how to make the presentation by looking back to earlier verses in Romans 6. Before we are saved, we are pictured as SLAVES to sin. Sin is our master. But when Christ comes into our lives, He is our new master. Romans 6:6 says, “Knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; 7 for he who has died is freed from sin.”
I find it helpful to understand making the presentation to also see the verses before verse 13 and after verse 13.
Romans 6:11 says, “Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not be master over you,”
With this information of how the power of sin is broken, you have a huge decision to make. What are you going to make yourself available to – unrighteousness or righteousness? I trust you will present yourself as instruments of righteousness to God.”
My prayer is that I would be a clean vessel in the hands of God to impact the world for His glory. This personal prayer was crafted with Romans 6:13 in mind. WHAT ARE YOU GIVING YOURSELF TO?
Continue Strong, presenting yourself fully to Christ,
And remember to daily DATE the Word
