A Call To Total Contentment And Commitment To Christ!

Luke 12:29 “And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind.”

As Jesus teaches what we call the Sermon on the Mount (here in Luke 12 and in Matthew 5, 6, and 7), He drops a bombshell as He calls followers to NOT BE ANXIOUS about life, even to the point of not being CONCERNED about the BASICS of life (food, clothing, and shelter). You might think what Jesus is teaching seems ludicrous – ridiculous – maybe to the level of insane.  Surely, He would not tell a person to starve to death.

While it appears Jesus does not want us to be thinking about the necessities of life, what He is really seeking to convey is a change of thinking about LIFE being more than basic survival. Jesus wants our lives to take on meaning and significance.  That will happen when one has JESUS FIRST. As the passage goes on to verse 31, He says, “But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.”

The use of the word BUT in verse 31 speaks of a contrast.  Instead of seeking for the necessities of life that consume us to a level where we have no time for anything else, especially spiritual things, Jesus wants us to choose the eternal over the temporal.

As I look at this challenge to put Jesus First and seek the things of His kingdom first I wrote these words in my Bible: When I take care of the Father’s Business first, He takes care of my business.

As you look to a new year, do you find that you have TOTAL CONTENTMENT WITH CHRIST AND TOTAL COMMITMENT TO CHRIST!

Continue Strong, fully committed to Christ,
And remember to DATE THE WORD
