A Question That Begs For An Answer

Job 9:2 “Truly I know it is so, but how can a man be righteous before God?”

How can a man be righteous before God? This is one, if not the greatest, question a man can ask. With the fact from Scripture that there is none righteous, no not one (Romans 3:10), can anyone stand before God in their own righteousness? The Scriptures tell us the answer is a resounding NO. Isaiah 64:6 says, “But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags.” Romans 3:20 says, “Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight.”  In other words, no matter how good a person is, they still come up short.

Well, what if a person offers 10,000 sacrifices to satisfy God? The Scriptures tell us the answer is still no.  Micah 6:6, “With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the High God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? 7  Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?”  Regardless of the numerous sacrifices, one still comes up short.

Is there any hope for a person who is sinful, unholy, ungodly, unrighteous, etc.? Thankfully, the Scripture tells us there is hope because Jesus Christ will give us His righteousness when we accept Him as Savior. Within the salvation He gives a person is justification, and with justification we are declared righteous. 2 Corinthians 5:21 explains it as the great exchange: “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

So, to the question, “How can a man be righteous before God,” the answer is JESUS!

And the beauty of this is that any person, no matter how horrible the person can accept Jesus, and because of His sacrifice and love, one can receive His righteousness based on 2 Cor. 5:21.

To Job’s question, the answer is JESUS!
