Matthew 8:2 “And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.””
A survey of the REQUESTS Jesus received as He did His ministry is amazing as well as astounding. Our verse tells of a man who is a leper asking Jesus to “make” him clean. This would be just one of many “impossible” requests Jesus received. A Roman Centurion asked him to heal his servant who “lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.” To accomplish the miraculous healing Jesus was to just speak the word which meant distant was not to be a concern. (Matthew 8:5) A brokenhearted father asked Him to bring his daughter back to life. (Matthew 9:18-19). Later, a desperate mother asked Him to cast demons out of her daughter. (Matthew 15:22) And the list goes on and on of which I am sure you are quickly thinking of other examples of “impossible” request He received.
Returning to our verse we should know that Matthew 8 is the beginning of Jesus revealing His POWER. Matthew 8 opens with Him cleansing a man of leprosy which definitely reveals how powerful He is. Leprosy, as you know, is a dreaded, painful, almost always an uncurable disease. If one had it, they had to practice the dreaded “social distancing” by announcing to anyone coming close they were UNCLEAN.
Unfaced by his predicament Matthew tells how this unnamed leper approaches Jesus and displays faith that Jesus can do what surely is impossible in asking to be made clean. I think it is worth noting he humbly and politely ask to be made clean with the words, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
There is a hint that while He believed Jesus could heal Him, he just was not sure if Jesus was willing. Friends, Jesus is ABLE and He is WILLING!!! I am not sure what you are facing today but bow before Jesus in worship and lay the need before the Lord. He is ABLE and He is WILLING!! If He can heal a man of leprosy, He can handle what you are facing!!!
He is ABLE! He is WILLING!!
Continue Strong praying with faith for Him to do the impossible,
And remember to DATE the Word
