Psalm 4:3 “But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him.”
There are some THINGS we need to KNOW. As David has made his plea for God to answer his appeals in verse 1, he turns his attention from God to men, men who are in rebellion against God and persecuting him in verse 2. He wants to know from them how long will they continue in their rebellious behavior toward God. Most likely, though we are not sure, David is addressing Absalom and those who have joined him in seeking to overthrow him as king. In addressing those he has conflict with he wants them to know something and that something is found in verse 3. BUT KNOW! But know that God has placed a high value on the godly. The idea of “set apart” is He has them in a place where He watches carefully and he protects. The godly are in a place where as they have need the Lord hears their cry.
Because David KNOWS this he makes a declaration of confidence stating “THE LORD WILL HEAR WHEN I CALL TO HIM.” This is not arrogance, nor boasting but a full assurance that as one walks with God and obeys God, the Lord HEARS their prayers. In comparison, we should be reminded from Proverbs 15:29 that, “The LORD is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.” Proverbs 28:9 says, “One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.” Proverbs 1:28-29 says, “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD.”
I trust you have confidence in God that He will answer your prayers as David did. The first confidence you should have is that if you confess your sins He is faithful and just to forgive and cleanse you of all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) The confession of your sins should then grow your confidence in God hearing and answering your prayers!
An April To Believe thought:
With Easter on April 20, we are reading and encouraging you to read through the gospel of John, one chapter a day, with an eye for the word “believe” as it is prominent in John as it was his purpose for writing (John 20:31). On this April 3rd, we encourage you to read/listen to John 3 where Christ is the SAVIOR with the key verse being John 3:16. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. May this April be an April to Believe!
