2 Samuel 7:29 “Now, therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You; for You, O Lord GOD, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed forever.”
Throughout the Bible, we find people asking for God’s rich blessings. Many times the request was for family members. For instance, in Genesis 28:1, we read, “Then Isaac (the father) called Jacob (his son) and blessed him, asking in verse 3 that God Almighty would bless him, and make him fruitful and multiply him, that he may be an assembly of peoples. In Genesis 48, Jacob will bless not just his sons but will bless his grandsons. Genesis 48:9 tells us that “Joseph said to his father, ‘These are my sons, whom God has given me in this place.” And he said, “Please bring them to me, and I will bless them.” Then at verse 16 he says, “The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil, Bless the lads; Let my name be named upon them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; And let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”
In Numbers 6:23-27, we have the Priestly blessing. Starting at verse 23, God tells Moses to instruct Aaron and his sons to ASK God to bless the people of Israel and to instruct them WHAT that blessing should include. Notice Numbers 6:23-27 as it says, “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the people of Israel: you shall say to them, 24 The LORD BLESS you and keep you; 25 the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; 26 the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. 27 “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will BLESS them.”
Reading in 1 Chronicles 4, there is the prayer of Jabez. 1 Chronicles 4:10 says, “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.”
