Judges 5:2 “That the leaders took the lead in Israel, that the people offered themselves willingly, bless the LORD!”
In Judges 5, the prophetess Deborah begins her song, and she sings praises to God because 1) LEADERS started LEADING, and 2) PEOPLE started VOLUNTEERING. And what followed was VICTORY!
Now, one would not think this was such a big deal as leaders should be leading and people should be serving. However, in Deborah’s day, the LEADERS were NOT LEADING, and the PEOPLE were NOT VOLUNTEERING to serve. Instead of a spirit of courage, there was a spirit of cowardice. In chapter 4, Deborah will inspire God’s people to action, and what followed was leaders leading and people willingly serving. The NLT for Judges 5:2 reads, “Israel’s leaders took charge, and the people gladly followed.”
During Student Leadership Orientation at Liberty University, when I was one of the Campus Pastors, I had our president, Dr. Pierre Guillermin, come in and speak. I still recall that he spoke on leadership, and his first point was Leaders LEAD. What a thought! Leaders Lead! He went on to develop the point by pointing out that a title does not make one a leader. LEADING makes one a leader. Taking action that causes others to take action makes one a leader.
My takeaway was Those in Charge take Charge!!
I guess I want to ask, are you doing what you are supposed to be doing? Are you living afraid and cowering from doing what God expects of you? If you are in a position of leadership, are you leading? If you have been charged with responsibility, are you taking CHARGE? The church of the Lord Jesus needs His people INVOLVED, and that means He needs His leaders to be leading.
Followers follow LEADERS WHO LEAD!
As leaders lead by stepping out by faith, their followers step out by faith!!
Continue Strong, doing what you are supposed to be doing,
And remember to DATE the Word
