Gee-Whiz –  Even The Birds Know!

Jeremiah 8:7 “Even the stork in the heavens knows her appointed times; And the turtledove, the swift, and the swallow observe the time of their coming. But My people do not know the judgment of the LORD.”

As God attempts to wake up His people to the coming judgement of the Lord, He gives what has to be a SHOCKING statement that EVEN the BIRDS have a clue about their future, but GOD’S people DON’T. Whereas birds are aware of seasonal changes that necessitate a location change, God’s people were resistant to repentance.  While they were SEEING the judgment of God starting to happen, they were stubborn to repent of their sinful behaviors.

In case this passage is not a familiar one, notice the preceding verses: Jeremiah 8:4 “Thus says the LORD:  Why has this people slidden back, Jerusalem, in a perpetual backsliding? They hold fast to deceit, they refuse to return. 6  I listened and heard, But they do not speak aright. No man repented of his wickedness, saying, ‘What have I done?’ Everyone turned to his own course, as the horse rushes into the battle.”

To this blatant refusal to repent, God says birds recognize a time to change, but His people do not.

What about us?  Do we not know of a future judgement?  Do we not know that man has upcoming appointments?  Hebrews 9:27 says man is appointed to die and then (another appointment) the judgement.

Are you ready for your appointment with death?  Are you ready for your appointment with God?  The prophet Amos stated Be prepared to meet God.

In case you think you have time to take care of this later, please notice the following warnings:
Proverbs 27:1 says, “Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.”
James 4:13 “Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit” 14  whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”
1 Samuel 20:3 David said, “There is but a step between me and death.”
1 Corinthians 6:2 “For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

Are you ready for your future appointments?  Birds of the air know they have to take action to move to a new destination.  KNOWING you face future appointments, what CHANGES need to be made before it is too late?

Continue Strong, PREPARED TO MEET GOD,
And remember to DATE the Word
