Mark 5:19 “However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.”
Mark 5 started out telling the story of how Jesus delivered a demon-possessed man from his demons. It is one of the incredible stories of the ministry of Jesus and how He could change a person’s life. This demon possessed man went from being completely untamed (described this way in verse 4 and 5: “neither could anyone tame him. 5 And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones”) to the people of the region seeing “the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind.” WOW! What a change Jesus MAKES!
With his life changed, this unnamed man wants to go with Jesus. Mark 5:18 says, “And when Jesus got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him.”
Mark 5:19 (our verse for consideration) gives the response as well as a tremendous assignment. As Jesus denies the request, He tells him to GO. He tells him to GO back to his home – his FAMILY and to his FRIENDS and TELL them what Jesus had done for Him.
He told him to GO to family and friends and SHARE HIS STORY OF THE SAVIOR’S SALVATION.
Is this not our assignment? Is this not what we are supposed to be doing? Having received salvation, we are to SHARE our story with family and friends of the Savior’s salvation. Is this not what Paul taught the Corinthians in 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 as he wrote, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
As Jesus changes our lives with grace and compassion, He wants us to share with others what He did for us. And I know for a fact that if you have been saved, you have a story worth sharing. The big question is, are you sharing it?
It is time to GO!
Continue Strong sharing His story,
And remember to daily DATE the Word
