Philippians 4:1 “Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved.”
This is the second time Paul called on believers in Philippi to stand fast or stand firm like a soldier standing at a post (a position) to guard the camp. He first used this word in Philippians 1:27 where he writes, “Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” He would use this word also in:
1 Corinthians 16:13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.
Galatians 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
1 Thessalonians 3:8 For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord.
2 Thessalonians 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle.
To stand fast is to hold fast to the Lord. It is to know what you have in Jesus and rest completely on it. Deceivers will come with false teachings to draw you away from the faith and your liberty in Christ. There seems to always be someone trying to convince the believer they need to add something to the gospel in order to be saved. Paul has explained in Philippians 3 that salvation is totally and completely provided by Jesus. Now the Philippians are to stand fast in Him and Him alone.
Believer, know the positions you now have by trusting Jesus as Savior. For instance, you have been regenerated, justified, redeemed, and adopted. Hold fast to these positions as a soldier guarding the camp. Don’t let the enemy in to steal, kill, and destroy your faith!
Stand fast on the promises of God.
Continue Strong,
And remember to DATE The Word
