John 7:31 “And many of the people believed in Him, and said, “When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?””
Is HE who HE says HE is? The life and ministry of Jesus stirred up many conversations as to WHO WAS HE and what exactly was He here for. Even before His official ministry started, His parents were questioning Him about why He was doing what He was doing. You might recall from Luke 2:48, “So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, your father and I have sought You anxiously.” And then He gives what had to be a shocking answer as He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”
Later, there would be questions such as could this be the Christ? We find this question in Matthew 12:23 And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the Son of David?” And in John 4:29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”
Our verse to DATE has people asking, “When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?”
Jesus Himself put the question of who He is to His disciples, asking them to tell Him who others were saying He was and then asking them who do they say He is. Just days before the crucifixion, He asked a group of Pharisees, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?”
I put to you the question is HE who HE says HE is? I trust you have wrestled with this question. The Christian faith is not accepted without evidence, evidence that, as Josh McDowell wrote, demands a verdict. A thorough reading of the gospels, especially the gospel of John, reveals that Jesus did make Himself known to the world. He demonstrated through teaching and actions that He indeed was the Christ. John would conclude his book with John 20:30, “And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.”
So, “What do you think about the Christ?” Is His story just a fairy tale? If He did live, is He a liar? Was He a lunatic? Or is HE who HE says HE is, and thus He should now be your SAVIOR and LORD. I submit that if HE is who HE says HE is, then we ALL are sinners and in need of a SAVIOR. That leads to “What then will YOU do with Jesus who is called Christ?”
