Nehemiah 9:30 “Yet for many years You had patience with them, and testified against them by Your Spirit in Your prophets. Yet they would not listen; Therefore, You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.”
Don’t you continue to stand amazed at the patience of God!! His people over and over rebelled against Him, yet He was patient with them. Nehemiah 9:30 says YET FOR MANY YEARS God had patience with them. Judgment would come but only after multiple warnings.
It is worth noting what finally brought the judgment as we see another YET in the verse. “YET THEY WOULD NOT LISTEN!” What caused the patience to run out was the refusal to listen to the warnings.
Over and over in the Bible we are called to LISTEN. This call is greatly emphasized in the Book of Proverbs. We are not to be tone deaf to God and His Spirit and His Word and His preachers. God is so loving and patient to speak words of warning.
I do wonder, though, if there is a YET coming for any of our stories. After God has had so many speak warnings into our lives, YET our story is one of NOT listening.
The old hymn said, God is softly and tenderly calling!! Listen – respond – repent – obey! Learn from how He had to deal with Israel of yesteryears. Learn that His patience does run out. Be responsive to His mercy and His patience with humble obedience!
As you DATE the WORD, why may God’s patience be wearing thin with you?
Has there been a time when you noticed God’s patience with another person and it caused you to change? Has there been a time where you saw God’s patience basically end with a person, and it caused you to change?
Have you thanked God lately for His patience with you?
Don’t cause God’s patience to wear thin with you!
Continue Strong, listening to God and obeying His warnings!
