Acts 9:5 “And Saul said, ‘Who are You, Lord?” Then the Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.””
As Saul (later called Paul) is confronted on the road to Damascus by none other than Jesus Himself, he will ask one of the most important questions to be asked in asking WHO ARE YOU? I love that he basically answered the question himself as he said, “Lord.” Jesus will respond with “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you to kick against the goads.”
This question of WHO IS JESUS continues to be a question that must be answered by every individual. It is the right question and it is a question that needs the right answer.
WHO IS JESUS? He Himself would ask His disciples who do men say that He is and who do they say He is? Is He just a myth, a made-up story? Is He fake news? At this point in Saul’s life, he was convinced Jesus was an imposter. His story needed to be stamped out.
For some, Jesus was a good person who lived and serves today as a model for other humans to follow. He was a nice guy who had a horrible ending. Is this your viewpoint?
Is He a legendary figure of one’s imagination? Maybe only a legendary figure of history? Was He a liar? Was He a lunatic? Or is He LORD?
The right question to ask is, was He who He said He was and did what He said He would do. Is He the true Messiah who was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, was crucified, buried AND three days later ROSE victoriously over death and the grave, and the only one who can offer eternal life, changing a sinner’s status to the status of a son?
