“After that the Levites went in to do their work in the tabernacle of meeting before Aaron and his sons; as the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.” – Numbers 8:22 |

Doing our WORK Work is not a four-letter dirty word. From the very beginning, we find God Himself is at WORK and then He will have a WORK for Adam to do. God placed Adam in the garden of Eden to take care of the garden (Gen. 2:15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it) and to name all the animals. (Gen. 2:19 says, “Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field.) After the fall God will pronounce a curse upon the man and the land in which man’s work will be more difficult. (Gen. 3:17 “Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread.”) Doing WORK has always been part of the human experience. What is your experience with WORK? What is your attitude toward WORK? Our verse to DATE tells us how the “Levites went in to do their work in the Tabernacle.” Notice that it says “their work.” They began to do the work that had been assigned to them. Each Levite had a work to do so the work at the Tabernacle could be accomplished. They had “their work” and they showed up to DO THEIR WORK. As a believer reading this, you have a work to do for the Lord. Each of us is to be involved in the work of the ministry as we are to be ministering to one another. (1 Peter 4:9) Each of us has at least one primary spiritual gift from the list of gifts in Romans 12 and Paul writes that we are to be USING it. A great example of being involved in a work for the Lord comes from Nehemiah where the people agreed with Nehemiah that the wall needed to be rebuilt. Nehemiah 3 tells how a huge number of people went to work building the wall and in Nehemiah 4:6 we read of an assessment that said half the wall was up because the people had a mind to work. There was however a verse in Nehemiah 3 that always bothered me. Nehemiah 3:5 says, “Next to them the Tekoites made repairs; but their nobles did not put their shoulders to the work of their Lord.” Wow – some did not put their shoulders to the work. May I ask pointedly, are you putting your shoulders into the work of the Lord at your local church? Do you have a misguided mindset that you are too good to do the work of the Lord? Do you believe you are part of a church to be served? The work of the Tabernacle was done because the Levites went in to DO their work. The wall in Nehemiah’s day was rebuilt because the people had a mind to work. For your local church to grow you need to be doing your work with a mind to work! Our verse to DATE the Word on August 22 (8/22) is Numbers 8:22. It says, “After that, the Levites went in to do their work in the tabernacle of meeting before Aaron and his sons; as the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.” The church works when you work!
