Wholehearted Worship & Witness

Psalm 9:1 “I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works.”

Our verse not only speaks of a bold declaration by the Psalmist to offer praise to the Lord, but also that his praise is going to be offered with his whole heart.  In other words, he is not going to be just going through the motions.  He will not be giving lip service.

“Going through the motions.” “Giving lip service.”  Do those phrases describe your worship?  While I would hope not, I think we all may be guilty at times. This type of lackluster worship must have occurred, perhaps even with the Psalmist.  It is possible he wrote that he would worship with his whole heart because he had not been.

We read in Isaiah that God’s people gave lip service, but their hearts were far from God’s heart (Isaiah 29:13). Jesus would encounter religious people during His time on earth, and He pointed out their insincere worship by quoting Isaiah.  In Mark 7:6, we read that “He answered and said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: ‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.”

What an indictment, and it reminds us that the Psalmist’s declaration of worshiping with his whole heart is needed.  Let us not be guilty of lackluster, heartless worship.

The Psalmist did not just want to praise the Lord; he wanted to tell others about the great and awesome things the Lord was doing.  As he experienced the marvelous workings of God, he wanted others to know.

As you read Psalm 9:1, you find mindset was that the marvelous works of God were to be praised and as well as proclaimed!  Is this your mindset?

On 9/1, let us give praise to Him for His marvelous works and proclaim to others just how awesome God is

Continue Strong, praising God for who He is and proclaiming to others what He is doing.
