40 Days of Training for Leaders
This module emphasizes the importance of self-discipline and integrity for leadership, using Apostle Paul's experience to illustrate how a lack of discipline can lead to disqualification or failure in ministry. The text compares leadership to driving a car, where the leader is the driver and responsible for directing the car's path while maintaining its maintenance. It encourages readers to differentiate between passengers and drivers and to note the difference between being a leader and a follower, especially concerning the responsibilities that come with being a leader.

Leadership 101

Day 3 PRAY – NOTHING OF ETERNAL SIGNIFICANCE EVER HAPPENS APART FROM PRAYER.

The late Dr. Jerry Falwell stated over and over to us that “ nothing of eternal significance ever happens apart from prayer.” A spiritual leader is one who leads from his or her knees. Every action is bathe in prayer. We are seeking His direction – we are seeking His power – we are seeking His provision – we are seeking His protection. One cannot say their ministry is for HIM if they are not in constant communication with HIM. One cannot expect the power of God to change lives if one is not asking. A reading of your Bibles will reveal that all the great leaders were men and women of prayer. I am convince that the strongest you will ever be is on your knees.

Verse that guides:

Acts 6:4 “but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

The early leaders of the church faced many problems – where to invest their time and energy was one of those problems, especially when there were urgent needs. However , those early leaders understood that for them to be effective they must prioritize and always do what was the most important, which was to be men and women of prayer and then men and women who taught the Word.  We will do well to follow their example.

As you develop your prayer life you have a guide from the Lord. He said

  1. ¶ “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
  2. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
  3. Give us this day our daily bread.
  4. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
  5. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

I was challenged by Dr. Elmer Towns to pray the Lord’s prayer (I call it the Disciple’s Prayer) each morning immediately upon waking up. I can tell you that that challenge has helped me to start every day right. I give you the challenge to pray this prayer – not repetitiously – but to truly pray it as a guide every morning when you wake up.

Developing a prayer life is one of the most important things you will do whether you are a leader or not. In my growth I developed a guide called PRAYER – it allows me to PRAISE –  I should never enter the presence of God without coming before Him with praise –

It allows me to REPENT – I am in need of cleansing just as Isaiah was. I confess sin and experience cleansing.

It allows me to ASK – and He has told me to ask – I ask for myself – for the things I need for life- I ask for others – it is my time of intercessory prayer

It allows me to YIELD – some of my asking is selfish so I state my statement of yielding – “not my will be done, but yours”

It allows me to EXPECT – prayer is a statement of faith- having asked believing that my asking is according to His will I begin to anticipate how He will work – I am expecting great things

It allows me to REJOICE – how can one not have a spirit of rejoicing when they have taken everything to God in prayer. I use this a guide for my morning prayer.

Today I challenge you to make prayer a priority and in making it a priority continue to learn how to pray and THEN PRAY!!! PRAY – NOTHING OF ETERNAL SIGNIFICANCE EVER HAPPENS APART FROM PRAYER.

*I also suggest as you develop you prayer life to check the 29:59 guide that Daniel Henderson uses. It will teach you how to pray for 30 minutes.
